On the palate, this wine is complex, rich, long and fat. It displays aromas of crushed black fruits (blackberries, blackcurrants, cherries) and jam. The tannins are plump and well-integrated. Unlike many Pinot Noirs grown in the Pays d'Oc, this wine is not dominated by heaviness or an excessive over-ripeness.

Bursting at the seams with aromas of macerated tart cherries, pomegranate, and notes of earth and pine. Sweet and tart red fruit on the front palate leading to very subtle oak influence on the back. The finish is bright, slightly herbal and delicate.

Deep scarlet colour; out of the gate, aromas of cinnamon, cranberry and a hint of ginger tease for a taste. The palette turns into Christmas in the mouth... sweet baking spices and tart berries, even a hint of roasted meat. Throughout the experience a plush weight fills the mouth. The merging of flavours, viscosity and a lively acidity round out the long, sinuous finish.

The colour is a rich scarlet-red, with opulent aromas of blackberry, black cherry, cinnamon, nutmeg and a hint of caramel. The palate comes alive with flavours of ripe raspberries, strawberry jam, a dense blackberry core, warm gingerbread, and a hint of toffee. It is perfectly balanced with refreshing acidity, plush weight on the mid-palate and a wonderfully supple texture. The expansive fruit flavours carry through to a long, pure and persistent finish. When asked to describe this wine, I simply say it’s like a taste of Christmas, all year long.

This Pinot Noir comes out of the gate with aromas of fresh mixed berries and dark cherries leading to hints of lavender, violets and a touch of cassis. This is an exceptionally balanced wine with good acidity whose flavours are given structure by a light touch of caramelized oak.

The vines are grown on low-vigour, stony, clay-rich soil, in a cool maritime mesoclimate. The naturally tiny yields of under 30 hl/ha and philosophy of expressing the terroir in the wines- give rise to a certain tightness, tannin line and elevated length to balance the richness and generosity of this Pinot Noir. Wonderfully high natural acidity and dense, complex, concentrated fruit flavours. Soft, “sweet” and generally shows hints of that alluring savoury “primal” character along with a dark, spicy, complex primary fruit perfume. Like 2009, another excellent vintage.

Sourced from select vineyards amidst the foothills of the Massif Central near the beautiful communes of Pézenas and Narbonne, FAT bastard Pinot Noir is a brilliant expression of the land from which it is made. The relatively high altitudes of the vineyards provide the optimal temperate conditions necessary for aroma and color development in the wine.
