Knappogue Castle 12 YO is an exceptional single malt made exclusively from malted barley. This stout has a deep black colour with reddish hue and pours with a thick creamy head. Rich and complex coffee aroma with light liquorice notes, the Fuggles hops leads to a tart bitterness which mingles with the roast espresso flavours on the tongue.

On the palate a distinctive mellow maltiness, a touch of sweet oil, spiciness - and again those background notes of honey, vanilla, toasted wood. The implosive palate concentration though is simply beyond “liqueur-like” and into realms I can’t recall. Strong brown spices, herbal concentrates add complexity and a buttery, creamy texture does not prevent this wine from preserving the most remarkable clarity of jellied pit fruit concentration, photo-electric brilliance of fruit acids lighting the way to an endless finish.
